EENKLOMP
KLOMP! aims to raise funds together with recognized partners by
inviting talented local designers in China and Hong Kong to
decorate Dutch wooden shoes (clogs) for charity.
KLOMP! exhibits the artworks during the Business of Design Week
(BODW) 2008 in Hong Kong. Our charity is the auctioning of the best
pairs of designed clogs.
KLOMP! will invite together with the Netherlands Consulate in HK
an honourable group of art and design lovers to bid on the designer
clogs.
Our raised funds will be donated to fight worldwide poverty by
supporting concrete
projects of our charity partner EEN.
What is KLOMP!
"Klomp" is a Dutch word for Clog, a typical wooden shoe worn by
the Dutch. During KLOMP! local designers and artists in China and
Hong Kong decorate a pair of clogs. Together with the organization
of Local Dutch the local artists contribute their design work for
charity called "EEN" or ONE in English.
Who are KLOMP!
KLOMP! is an initiative by:
KLOMP! and EEN
EEN was started by the Dutch Platform Millennium Development
Goals. In this platform, more than fifty Dutch and international
organizations - such as Unicef, OxfamNovib and Stop Aids Now!- work
together in reaching the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's). In
2000 leaders of 189 UN countries came to one promise; before 2015
poverty, health issues an hunger must be alleviated. This is
translated into the eight Millennium
Development Goals.
EEN (Dutch translation for ONE) represents everybody who fights
for a world without poverty. ONE by ONE we can make a difference.
Together we will reach the Millennium Development Goals (MDG's),
which will lead to the ending of extreme poverty. By providing
enough food, good education, equal opportunities, health care,
clean drinking water and fair trade.
Act as One
To reach the MDG's, all countries need to work together and keep
their promises. Besides that, also organizations, companies and
media need to act as ONE (EEN) and put effort into the goals.
That's why EEN is developing the EENshop (ready at half December)
in which we offer easy and inspiring ways for Dutch citizens and
companies to contribute to reaching the MDG's. In your daily live,
the way you wish, with of without money. You can sign petitions,
buy Fairtrade products (which guarantees consumers that strict
economic, social and environmental criteria were met in the
production and trade of a product), donate money to a concrete
development project and so on.
How KLOMP! works
Clogs by HK and Chinese designers and artists will be exhibited
during the BODW. Later the artworks will be auctioned for charity.
KLOMP! has selected an OxfamNovib project (one of the platform
members of EEN) to support schools in Bangladesh. This project
contributes to Millennium Development Goal 2; achieve universal
primary education.
We believe education is the basis for any nation to grow and is
also related to design. The charity will have the following
objectives:
- Build schools and school facilities (toilets)
- Supply schoolbooks, equipment and furniture
- Support school meals
- Facilitate trainings for teachers.
The target of KLOMP! is to raise money to build a complete and
fully operational school so that at least 35 children can be
educated. KLOMP and EEN can provide them a chance for a better
life.
